Established in 1989, St. Mary Academy, located in Dover, NH, seeks a Principal for the 2020-2021 school year. St. Mary Academy, under the guidance of our Blessed Mother, is a Catholic faith community that educates children in mind, body and spirit. Catholic education began in Dover when the Sisters of Mercy opened the Sacred Heart School for girls and Saint Joseph School for boys in 1883. Through the ensuing century, the school’s name has changed; other schools have begun, then merged. In 1989, the school was rededicated to Mary, the Mother of God, and renamed Saint Mary Academy. In 1999, the Kindergarten and Pre-K programs were moved to a newly renovated building on the corner of Locust and Church Streets. Part-Time Special Education Teacher

Small, thriving Catholic elementary school for students Preschool through Grade 6 seeking part-time special educator to work directly with students, administration and families as part of a dynamic team.

RESPONSIBILITES:

Performing diagnostics, reviewing evaluations and reports, and developing appropriate educational plans for referred students. The Student Education Plan will include the referral process, implementation of goal-oriented, targeted instruction, progress monitoring, and internal reporting.

Also responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with referred students, parents, collaterals and school staff; as well as acting as a liaison between special education department, classroom teacher and the local school district.

Offering teacher consultations for questions related to the special education process, strategies, interventions, etc.

  • Must be able to perform diagnostic assessments, write individualized instructional plans, and provide interventions
  • Develops Student Education Plans for students and works with families and teachers for implementation, monitoring and tracking progress
  • Plans, organizes, and assigns activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
  • Teaches and mentors students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one
  • Updates Student Accommodation Plans on predetermined interval schedule the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals
  • Discusses student’s progress with parents, teachers, administrators, and relevant professionals within and outside of school related to the student’s case
  • Works with school district in meetings, for referral, planning, reviewing assessments and plans in addition to coordinating observations, evaluations etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Qualified Special Educator
Experience: Teaching experience and diagnostic assessment with elementary aged students.
License/Certification: Teacher Certification in General Special Education required.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:

The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of teaching methods, the use of instructional materials and research-based strategies for use with students with special needs. Ability to evaluate student progress and provide guidance to both students and teachers. Ability to work with and secure the cooperation of others. Ability to work with a team and to collaborate in the development of programs, policies, and procedures. Ability to work effectively with outside resources, community organizations, and sending schools. Ability to originate and implement new programs related to students with special needs and to improve any existing programs. Must be a flexible thinker, a cooperative team player and able to work independently and as a team member. Must be knowledgeable about the laws regarding special education and be a willing advocate for the student. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and resourcefulness. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority. Perform other related duties as assigned.
