Updates to the 2019 Code and Policy

Effective August 10, 2020, the following revision is made to the Code of Conduct in Section III. Standards for Working with Minors; C. Supervision of Programs Involving Minors; 3. Transportation of Minors:

3. Church personnel are discouraged from transporting minors. If it becomes necessary for Church personnel to provide transportation to minors, Church personnel must first meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the Diocese of Manchester Risk Management Standards. In addition, Church personnel must have a legitimate reason for transporting minors, in other words, transportation should only involve traveling to or from a Church-sanctioned event. Notwithstanding emergencies, written permission from a parent or guardian is required and must be on file at the school or parish. An adult transporting minors on behalf of the Church should avoid having fewer than two minors in a vehicle at any time and should, whenever possible, provide transportation along with other adults so that no fewer than two adults are available. Church personnel should transport minors directly to their destination, and no unauthorized stops should be made. Church personnel must require all minors to wear seatbelts or, when appropriate, be strapped into car seats.
