Transitional Diaconate Ordination 2019

The Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, ordained Reverend Mr. Ryan Amazeen and Reverend Mr. Joshua Livingston to the transitional diaconate at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester on Saturday, May 25.

The diaconate is the first of three ranks of ordained ministry in the Catholic Church, which also include the priesthood and the episcopacy, or the ministry of a bishop. Men studying for the priesthood are ordained as transitional deacons prior to beginning their final year of study before ordination to the priesthood. Deacons are able to preach at Mass, baptize, and celebrate weddings.

Bishop Libasci said, “Our seminarians are a gratifying sign of hope during this challenging time for our Church. These young men are aware of the challenges but are also emboldened to prepare to be faithful priests who help to build up and heal the Church here in New Hampshire. I ask that you please keep all of our seminarians in your prayers and continue to pray for more vocations to the priesthood here in the Diocese of Manchester.”

Ryan Amazeen is the son of Mr. Stephen and Mrs. Elaine Amazeen. A parishioner of St. Pius X Parish, he grew up in Auburn, NH and attended Manchester Memorial High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Providence College, and is entering his fourth year of Theology at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA. He was vested at ordination by Reverend Monsignor Anthony R. Frontiero, and has a summer assignment at St. Joseph Cathedral Parish, in Manchester, NH.

Joshua Livingston is the son of Mr. Vincent and Mrs. Roseanne Livingston. A parishioner of Parish of the Assumption in Dover, NH, he grew up in Tyler Hill, PA and attended Honesdale High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, Millersville, PA, and is entering his fourth year of Theology at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA. He was vested at ordination by Reverend Michael L. Sartori, and has a summer assignment at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in Rochester, NH.

The Diocese of Manchester currently has 14 men preparing for the priesthood at seminaries in Brighton, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; Saint Meinrad, Indiana; and Cromwell, Connecticut.
