Rev. Richard H. Wegman Called to His Rest

Wegman RichardOn December 12, 2017 the Reverend Richard H. Wegman was called to his rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. He was 89 years old.

Father Wegman was born on November 3, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York and was ordained a priest on June 2, 1990 by the Most Reverend Odore J. Gendron, D.D., at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. Father Wegman studied at Queens College, Flushing, New York, and then he completed his ecclesiastical studies at Pope John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts.

Father Wegman was assigned as associate pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish in Hampton.

Father Wegman served as pastor of Saint Joan of Arc Parish in Alton (later known as Saint Katharine Drexel Parish) where he served until his retirement. Father Wegman also served as an appointed member of the Council of Priests, representing parochial vicars.

During his retirement, Father Wegman remained actively engaged in parish ministry, primarily in the Lakes Region.

On Sunday, December 17, 2017, the Rite of Reception of the Body will take place at Saint Katharine Drexel Church, 40 Hidden Springs Road, Alton, NH. Father Wegman will lie in repose in the church 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., concluding with Mass. On Monday, December 18, 2017, Father Wegman will lie in repose at Saint Katharine Drexel Church from 9:00 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. The Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, will preside at a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated after the Mass at Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. The Peasley Alton Funeral Home at 12 School Street in Alton, New Hampshire has care of the arrangements.

With faith and hope in eternal life, let us commend our brother to the love and mercy of God and assist him with our prayers. The statutes of the Diocese of Manchester request that we offer three Masses for the repose of his soul.
