for the Diocese Of Manchester
Rev. Marcos Gonzalez-Torres, Rev. Volney DeRosia appointed Assistant Vocations Directors
(MANCHESTER, NH) – The Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, announced today the appointment of Rev. Matthew J. Mason as full-time Director of the Office of Vocations. Fr. Mason currently serves as pastor of Gate of Heaven Parish in Lancaster. He will transition from that role to his new position as soon as practical.
Fr. Mason succeeds Rev. Jason Y. Jalbert, who has served part-time as Director of the Office of Vocations for 11 years, along with other responsibilities. Fr. Jalbert, who is Rector and Pastor of Saint Joseph Cathedral Parish in Manchester, will continue to serve the diocese as Director of the Office for Worship.
Bishop Libasci also announced that Rev. Marcos Gonzalez-Torres and Rev. Volney (Von) J. DeRosia will take on the role of Assistant Vocation Directors, supporting Fr. Mason. Fr. Gonzalez-Torres will lead efforts among our Spanish-speaking communities, while Fr. DeRosia will assist with young adult programs. Both will continue in their current pastoral assignments.
“I am grateful for the leadership that I know Fr. Matt, Fr. Marcos and Fr. Von will provide,” said Bishop Libasci. “This team will work diligently to promote a strong love for the priesthood and a culture of vocations throughout the parishes and schools of the diocese, especially within families.”
The Office of Vocations, aided by the newly-formed Diocesan Strategic Vocation Action Team, seeks to encourage new vocations to the priesthood in order to ensure a sufficient number of priests for the diverse and growing needs of the people of New Hampshire. Fr. Mason and his team will be responsible for the recruitment, screening, and pre-formation of men prior to their application to the diocese, and for supporting the 13 men currently studying for the priesthood.
Fr. Mason is a native of Boscawen, NH. The oldest of the seven children of Brian and Susan Mason, he is a graduate of the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimack, NH, where he earned a degree in Philosophy. He completed his seminary formation at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA, and was ordained a priest in 2009. Prior to his appointment as pastor of Gate of Heaven Parish, he served as Parochial Vicar at St. Andre Bessette Parish in Laconia.
