Rev. Robert A. Marchand Called to His Rest
On July 18, 2019 the Reverend Robert A. Marchand of Moody, Maine was called to his rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. He was 90 years old.
Father Marchand was born on September 9, 1928 in Manchester, New Hampshire, the son of Arthur and Aurea (Barnabe) Marchand. He attended the parochial schools at Saint John the Baptist and Sainte Marie Parish and Sainte Marie High School. He graduated from Saint Anselm College Magna Cum Laude in 1948 and took further courses at Catholic University in Washington, DC. Pursuing ecclesiastical studies for the Catholic priesthood at Saint Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD., he was subsequently ordained on June 7, 1952 by the Most Reverend Matthew F. Brady, D.D., fifth Bishop of Manchester, at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. He also received a degree of Licentiate in Sacred Theology from Saint Mary’s Seminary, Baltimore in June 1953.
After ordination, Father Marchand was assigned as associate pastor to the following parishes: Saint Joseph Parish in Hinsdale; Guardian Angel in Berlin; Holy Rosary in Rochester; Saint Cecilia in Wolfeboro; Saint Joseph in Center Ossipee; Saint Aloysius in Nashua and Saint Anthony of Padua in Manchester.
Father Marchand served as Pastor of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish, Manchester; Saint Leo Parish in Gonic; Saint Martin Parish in Somersworth and Saint Theresa Parish in Manchester where he served faithfully until his retirement in 1997.
Father Marchand also served as Judge of the Diocesan Matrimonial Court; Chaplain and Chaplain General to the Association Canado-Americaine for a number of years and as a Confessor for the Sisters of Holy Cross, Saint George Manor, Manchester, NH.
On, Thursday, July 25, 2019, Father Marchand will lie in repose from 12:00 noon till 12:45 p.m. at Ste. Marie Church, Manchester. The Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, will preside at a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated after the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Lambert Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
