Rev. Leo Frechette Called to His Rest
On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, the Reverend Leo L. Frechette was called to his rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. He was 93 years old.
Father Frechette was born on May 24, 1929 in Amesbury, MA. Father Frechette studied at Saint Charles Seminary, Sherbrooke, PQ and, then he completed his ecclesiastical studies at Saint Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. He was ordained a priest on June 4, 1955 by the Most Reverend Matthew F. Brady, at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester.
Father Frechette served as associate pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Pittsfield; Sacred Heart Parish, Manchester; Saint Augustine Parish, Manchester and Saint Aloysius Parish, Nashua.
Father Frechette served as temporary administrator of Saint Augustine, Manchester; Saint Aloysius Parish, Nashua; Holy Rosary Parish, Rochester, and Saint Leo Parish, Gonic.
Father Frechette was appointed pastor of Saint Anthony Parish in Sanbornville; Saint Anthony Parish, Manchester; Saint Joseph Parish in Epping and Sacred Heart Parish in Manchester, where he served faithfully until his retirement on July 31, 1995.
During his priesthood Father Frechette served as a substitute staff member at Bishop Bradley High School, Manchester; as co-moderator of the Urban Deanery of N.H. Council of Catholic Women; Faithful Friar of the Knights of Columbus – Fr. McDonald Assembly #2048; Judge, Diocesan Matrimonial Tribunal; and Chaplain to N.H. Catholic War Veterans. During his retirement, Father Frechette remained actively engaged in parish ministry.
On Monday, October 17, 2022, at 9:00a.m. the Rite of Reception of the Body will take place at Holy Trinity Church in St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, 404 High Street, Somersworth. Father Frechette will lie in repose in the church until the funeral Mass. The Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, will preside at a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:00a.m. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated after the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth, New Hampshire. The Bernier-Gelinas Funeral Home in Somersworth, New Hampshire has care of the arrangements.
