Rev. Thomas J. Bresnahan Called to His Rest

On August 15, 2017, the Reverend Thomas J. Bresnahan was called to his rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. He was 83 years old.

Father Bresnahan was born on September 29, 1933 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He studied at Saint Anselm College, Manchester and then completed his ecclesiastical studies at the American College at Louvain, Belgium earning a M.A. in Religious Education. Father Bresnahan was ordained a priest on June 26, 1960 by the Most Reverend Stephen Leven, D.D. , Auxiliary Bishop of San Antonio, TX, at the College Chapel of the American College at Louvain, Belgium.

Father Bresnahan was assigned as associate pastor of the following parishes: Saint Catherine Parish, Portsmouth; Saint Kieran Parish, Berlin and he also served as faculty at Bishop Brady High School with residence at Saint John the Evangelist Parish, Concord. Father Bresnahan then served as Diocesan Director of Vocations, temporary and then full time Chaplain at Rivier University, Nashua and was assigned to Team Ministry and Temporary Administrator of Saint Patrick Parish, Jaffrey.

Father Bresnahan served as pastor of the following parishes: Saint Patrick Parish, Jaffrey; Saint Joseph Parish, Nashua and was founding pastor of Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish in Londonderry where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2000. During his retirement, Father Bresnahan remained actively engaged in parish ministry for a time, primarily at Saint Patrick Parish, Pelham.

On Sunday, August 20, 2017, the Rite of Reception of the Body will take place at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 1 South Road, Londonderry, N.H. at 3:00 p.m. with waking hours to continue until 6:00 p.m. concluding with Evening Prayer. On Monday, August 21, 2017 Father Bresnahan will lie in repose from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Reverend Frederick J. Pennett, Jr. will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Deacon Lee Abbot will be the homilist. The Rite of Committal will take place after Mass at Saint Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald Street, Bedford, New Hampshire. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home of Salem, NH has care of the arrangements.
