Ways to Give Tomorrow
Planned giving is an essential way to ensure the Church in New Hampshire’s long-term stability. It allows our faithful donors to contribute a major gift to us, beyond their lifetime. So, unlike an annual, one-time, or immediate gift for current use, a planned gift is for the future.
Gifts through Wills and Trusts
A gift through a will or trust, known as a bequest, to the Diocese of Manchester provides for the future of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire. In most cases, you are free to remove or change this bequest during your life. A last will and testament allows you to outline your intentions for the distribution of your assets. Wills go through the court process of estate probate according to the regulations of the state in which you reside and become public record. Trusts also allow you to outline the distribution of assets. Trusts are not required to go through the court probate process in most states, may include various tax advantages, and may allow beneficiaries to access your gift sooner. There are different types of bequests, wills, trusts varying in complexity depending on the assets and desires of the donor. Some common types of bequests and trusts can be found here.
Gifts through Beneficiary Designations (e.g., life insurance)
You can name the Diocese of Manchester as a beneficiary of numerous assets including a savings account or Certificate of Deposit, an investment/brokerage account, an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b), a qualified retirement plan, or an insurance policy. This is a simple way to make a gift that has a lasting effect on ensuring the future of the Church in New Hampshire. In most cases, it simply requires completing and returning a beneficiary designation form from your plan administrator, insurance provider, or financial institution.
Charitable Gift Annuities
A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) is a way for you to make a charitable gift that helps our Church and guarantees a fixed lifetime income for you and/or someone you designate, part of which is tax free. Traditionally, you donate cash, stocks or mutual funds to the Diocese and ask us to establish a gift annuity*. Once the Diocese finalizes the gift annuity agreement, we will begin paying a fixed, guaranteed amount of lifetime income to you and/or anyone you name based on your selected payment schedule.
After your lifetime and/or that of your selected beneficiary, the Diocese uses the remaining principal from your gift to assist the Church in New Hampshire. There are numerous benefits to charitable gift annuities including no management fees, a portion which is tax-deductible, etc. * A minimum contribution of $25,000.00 is required.
Stock Gifts
Donations of appreciated securities or mutual funds helps the Diocese while offering tax benefits to you, the donor. You are eligible for a charitable income tax deduction on the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer. You pay no capital gains tax on securities you donate that you’ve held for more than one year. Donating securities can help you rebalance your portfolio. To donate stock, please contact the Development Office or the Director of School and Parish Financial Services Christine Bogacz (cbogacz@rcbm.org; 603-663-0118) to obtain the stock donation form.
The Diocese of Manchester also accepts a variety of other planned gifts including real estate and tangible personal property. Please speak to your estate planner, attorney, and/or financial advisor about moving forward with such a planned gift.
