We will be celebrating World Youth Day in New Hampshire to coincide with the closing weekend activities, vigil, and Papal Mass for World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia. The day will be full of inspiring talks, workshops, food, friends, and faith sharing. Our main speaker for the day is Timothy O’Malley, a regular presenter at ND Vision a conference for high school students at the University of Notre Dame. Tim is a faith-filled young man who has a lot to offer the youth of our diocese. He’ll tell stories, he’ll share faith, and he’ll inspire young and old alike, all laced with a lot of humor. The afternoon will include large and small group workshop sessions and the day will conclude with liturgy with Bishop McCormack as our presider.

The flyer for this event is downloadable for you to print and post in your parish or school. Individual registration forms and permission forms have also been provided for your convenience to use with the youth of your parish. When registering, please do so as a parish group using the parish registration form. If you have any questions, please contact the office for Youth Ministry.

World Youth Day Delegates with Bishop John B. McCormack
21 Lucky Pilgrims will Travel to Sydney Australia
The Diocese of Manchester is sending 21 pilgrims to Sydney, Australia for World Youth Day 2008. They represent four parish communities and are committed to sharing their experience throughout the diocese upon their return.

Steve Angrisano Concert


Steve is coming to the Diocese of Manchester for an entertaining and inspiring evening. He is a Spirit and Song recording artist and is recognized as one of the most dynamic and effective communicators with parish groups, youth, families and religious educators in the Church today. As a musician, composer and storyteller, Steve has shared his message with thousands of people in more than 200 dioceses. His unique blend of laughter, song, story and hilarious audience interaction has made him a popular performer around the country. Steve is not just a performer. In both music and story, he witnesses to the life and love of Jesus. A reception after the concert will give everyone who attends a chance to meet Steve.

Saint Raphael Avenging Archangels Win 2008 New England CYO Tournament

After finishing theregular season undefeated and coming in as runners up in both the ManchesterCity Tournament and the New Hampshire State Tournament, the Saint RaphaelParish CYO high school boys’ basketball team, the Avenging Archangels, headedinto the New England CYO tournament with high hopes. Although they finishedsecond in both of their previous tournaments, they aimed to make a run for the2008 New England CYO Championship. They did just that. (Read the full story)

LeBlanc to Receive Silver Antelope Award

Manchester, NH (March 20, 2008)—The Daniel Webster Council proudly announces that Rev. Leo A, LeBlanc, pastor, Holy Trinity Parish in Plymouth, NH is the recipient of the region’s highest honor, the Silver Antelope award. LeBlanc was selected as the recipient of the award because of his distinguished service to youth. LeBlanc is one of nine volunteers receiving the award in a region made up of 226,667 adult volunteers. The Northeast Region of the Boy Scouts of America includes Boy Scout Councils in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and a small part of Virginia. LeBlanc will receive the award and be recognized at the Boy Scouts of America National Meeting in San Diego, California, to be held May 21-23, 2008. (Read the full story)

NH Battle of the Bands NH Battle of the Bands

The La Salette Missionaries will host NH Battle of the Bands on May 31, 2008 from 12-6:00 p.m. at the La Salette Shrine, Enfield, NH. This event will bring well known speakers as well as six to nine Catholic bands to play and showcase their music to NH youth, their future fans. This outdoor music festival will conclude with a final performance by the band from LIFT Ministries who will play while the judges tally their votes. The LaSalette Missionaries are subsidizing the event and have been working with Proud2BCatholic for the last year. If you are a new or relatively unknown Catholic band in New England, you may submit your samples, photo and information to Peter Campbell by April 30. Please see website for details. Mass will be celebrated at the Shrine at 6:30 p.m. for those wishing to stay.

Institute for New Youth Ministers

The Institute for New Youth Ministers (INYM) is a four-day training experience designed to address the unique needs of the novice youth ministry coordinator (0-4 years). Cosponsored by Cultivation Ministries and the National Association of Catholic Youth Ministry Leaders, the 2008 INYM promises to engage, form, equip, and support new youth ministers in their role of disciple makers. The INYM is specifically designed to provide direction on what to focus upon in those first years, addresses the perennial trouble spots that come with the territory, and clears a path for staying healthy in the midst of many demands. The INYM will assemble some of the most seasoned youth ministry practitioners and presenters, who will address some of the most critical youth ministry issues.

The Institute in Adolescent Catechesis

This Institute is designed especially for parish and diocesan leaders in catechesis and adolescent ministries. Six topics will be explored in great depth: Foundations of Adolescent Catechesis, Adolescents Growing and Learning in Faith, Teaching about Faith and Discipleship, Curriculum for Adolescent Catechesis, Faith Sessions for Adolescents, and Catechists for Adolescents. The team of presenters for the Institute is made up of veteran teachers and practitioners in adolescent catechesis and youth ministry who have experience in national, diocesan, and parish settings of church life.

The Institute will meet from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday (August 11-14) and from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday (August 15). The fee is $350 plus the cost of books. Youth Ministry Mission

Three independent and equally important goals guide the Church’s ministry with adolescents:

  1. To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
  2. To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
  3. To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Youth Ministry Core Team

The Youth Ministry Core Team , established in 2003 by Bishop McCormack, offers support, encouragement and challenge to the youth ministers of the Diocese of Manchester. The Core Team has developed an online resource directory, Emmaus Connection, for adults who work with youth. The Youth Ministry Core Team has been gathering with youth ministers by deanery in order to assess needs and offer support.

Certificate in Youth Ministry

The Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies is a ministry education program for those in ministry with youth, ages 10 to 19, in both parishes and school settings. Read more about obtaining a Certificate in Youth Ministry .
