STATEMENT FROM AUXILIARY BISHOP FRANCIS J. CHRISTIAN
REGARDING BISHOP McCORMACK’S SURGERY
(MANCHESTER, NH) Bishop John B. McCormack underwent coronary artery bypass surgery yesterday and is recovering well.
Following some discomfort experienced while exercising, Bishop McCormack consulted with his physician, who recommended a cardiac evaluation. Bishop McCormack underwent a scheduled cardiac catheterization on Friday, August 29, 2008, performed by Dr. Louis I. Fink of the New England Heart Institute at Catholic Medical Center.
Based on the results of this procedure, and at the recommendation of his physicians, Bishop McCormack elected to have coronary artery bypass surgery. The surgery was performed by Dr. Benjamin M. Westbrook of Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates at Catholic Medical Center at 2:00 p.m. Friday.
Bishop McCormack is now recovering at Catholic Medical Center and is expected to be released from the hospital within the next few days.
“I know that Bishop McCormack has great confidence in the physicians, nurses and staff at Catholic Medical Center,” stated Auxiliary Bishop Francis J. Christian, Vicar General of the Diocese of Manchester. “I ask that we all join in praying for a speedy recovery for the Bishop and that the Lord will guide those who are caring for him.
Upon the advice of those responsible for his care, Bishop McCormack will not be able to receive visitors at the hospital or during his recuperation.
I thank all the Catholic faithful of New Hampshire for their goodness to Bishop McCormack.”
Updates on Bishop McCormack’s condition will be posted on the Diocese of Manchester Web site, www.catholicnh.org .
