World Youth Day Sunday
The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) Office has designated Sunday, October 26, 2008 as WORLD YOUTH DAY SUNDAY. Again this year, the Diocese of Manchester will join other dioceses across the United States in celebrating and recognizing youth and the adult leaders who promote youth ministry.
Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, Manchester and a reception will follow in the parish hall. During the Mass five teenagers will receive the Diocesan Youth Award – St. Timothy Award and five adults will receive the Diocesan Adult Award – Companions on the Journey. The purpose of these awards is to recognize adults and youth who have contributed consistently and creatively on the parish/school and diocesan levels.
The Annual Catholic Scouting Recognition Ceremony will be a part of the World Youth Day program this year. Scouts and adult leaders who have earned a religious award during the past year will be recognized at this ceremony. An invitation has also been extended to our pilgrims who attended the World Youth Day in Australia. Everyone is welcome to attend this event. If you are interested please contact, Donna Curran by Monday, October 20, 2008 at dcurran@rcbm.org or phone (603) 669-3100, Ext. 173

Faithful Citizenship Youth Web site seeks photos of young Catholics in action!
Are you planning to take action in support of human life and dignity in your community? Be sure to take your camera with you! USCCB’s Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship Youth Site is seeking photos of young Catholics taking action as faithful citizens. Desired photo themes include efforts to advocate for the vulnerable (visiting or contacting your legislators, letter-writing campaigns, rallies, etc.) and education activities to teach others about issues of human life, justice and peace.
Chosen photos will be featured in the Photo Gallery at http://www.faithfulcitizenship.org/youth/action/photos. The Youth Web site is a new initiative by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to reach out to young people with the messages of Faithful Citizenship, especially advocacy for justice. Please send your photos today to: jrauh@usccb.org.
Youth Ministry Mission
Three independent and equally important goals guide the Church’s ministry with adolescents:
- To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
- To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
- To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Youth Ministry Core Team
The Youth Ministry Core Team , established in 2003 by Bishop McCormack, offers support, encouragement and challenge to the youth ministers of the Diocese of Manchester. The Core Team has developed an online resource directory, Emmaus Connection, for adults who work with youth. The Youth Ministry Core Team has been gathering with youth ministers by deanery in order to assess needs and offer support.
