Camp Fatima and Camp Bernadette are sponsored by the Diocese of Manchester. Located in Gilmanton Iron Works and Wolfeboro, in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, they are traditional summer camps oriented toward land and water sport activities.
Founded in 1953, Camp Bernadette has a camper capacity of 270 girls per session and enjoys an early registration each season with the maximum enrollment attained each summer. Bernie has 21 camper cabins with complete bathroom facilities located within each camper division. The Camp is located approximately 20 miles south of NH's White Mountains and a half-hour's drive from Camp Fatima.
Camp Fatima, founded in 1949, is centrally located between Concord, the state capital, and the city of Laconia. Fatima has a camper capacity of 310 boys per session, housed in 29 cabins, each containing its own lavatory facility.
Again this year Bishop Libasci is making scholarships available to youth aged 6 to 15 to attend Camps Fatima and Bernadette. This is possible in accordance with the terms of a bequest received by the diocese. The youth must be Catholic and residing in New Hampshire. Please note that due to increased camping costs, the number of scholarships awarded this year will be limited to thirty (30). Priority will be to those who have never attended Fatima or Bernadette.
The two-week periods available in 2017 are as follows:
Camp Fatima for Boys, Gilmanton Iron Works:
1st Session – June 25th through July 8th
Starter week – June 25th through June 30th
2nd Session – July 9th through July 22nd
3rd Session – July 23rd through August 5th
4th Session – August 6th through August 11th
Camp Bernadette for Girls in Wolfeboro:
4th Session – August 6th through August 19th
The full scholarships granted to those in need are based on the recommendation of the pastor of their parish. Therefore, Bishop Libasci asks that each pastor recommend youth from his parish to attend one of the two-week sessions.
The deadline for submission of recommendations is March 15, 2017.
The 2017 Camp Application form that should be filled out by each child’s parent or guardian and returned to you as pastor or your delegate. You may want to ask your catechetical leader or another person to coordinate this for you. Please let the parent/guardian know that the application and scholarships, once received and approved, are based upon availability of spaces and level of need. Forward the completed applications to my attention at Diocese of Manchester, 153 Ash Street, Manchester, NH 03105-0310 or by facsimile at (603) 669-0377. Pastors will be notified in March of youth in their parish who have been awarded a camp scholarship and the youth will also receive a letter. Once notified they have received the scholarship, recipients will be asked to choose any available session and complete an online registration form.
If you have any questions concerning the application process, please feel free to contact Michael Drumm, at 603-364-5851 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The special needs program is designed to give the camper a one-week camping experience in a Christian community and to provide an environment that helps build confidence in oneself and trust in others.
This is accomplished through a fun and engaging camping experience. The daily program is designed to help the camper make new friends and to find adventure in all our activities. The program is a co-ed week with a minimum age of nine years old with a camper to staff ratio of 4-to-1. For more information please visit our website.
Exceptional Citizen's Week at Camp Fatima is a co-ed weeklong camp for children and adults (9+) with intellectual and/or physical challenges including, but not limited to Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Angelman Syndrome, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Each camper receives one-to-one care and experiences a week of various activities and special events that they otherwise may not be able to enjoy The 300+ dedicated volunteers and many generous donors allow EC Week to offer this great week to over 170 campers at no cost the campers' families and caregivers.
