Erin McKenney, a parishioner at St. Jude’s in Londonderry, has been named one of “100 Women of 2016” by the British Broadcasting Corporation, joining luminaries including singer Alicia Keyes and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles on a list that includes activists, entrepreneurs, scientists, sports figures, businesswomen, fashion icons and artists from all corners of the world.
This recognition comes after Erin created a year-long science curriculum centered around hands-on-activities and mentorship, designed to boost the self-confidence of girls and young women to pursue careers in STEM or any other field they want to.
In 2015 Bishop Libasci presented Erin with the St. Timothy Award for her outstanding work in youth ministry. Erin is a longtime member of Girls Scouts of America, and earned the Girl Scout Gold Award last year for her dedicated work with mentoring young women. She is a freshman at Lafayette College and plans to major in anthropology and sociology, as well as psychology.

Each year the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry provides awards as a service to the dioceses to help promote and advocate for youth ministry leadership. The purpose of the awards is to recognize adults and youth who have contributed consistently and creatively on the parish/school and diocesan level.
On Sunday, October 23, Bishop Libasci honored 8 young adults with the St. Timothy Award and 6 adults with the Companions on the Journey Award.
The St. Timothy Award recognizes junior or senior high school students who lives as a disciple of Christ, witnesses to their faith by exhibiting Catholic morals and integrity, and demonstrates Gospel values through service to others.
The Companions on the Journey Award recognizes adults who demonstrate excellence in youth ministry, commitment to ongoing education and formation, longevity in ministry, commitment to young people, and outstanding leadership at the local and/or diocesan level.
