Statement of the Diocese of Manchester Regarding
The Reverend Monsignor Edward J. Arsenault
In 2013, the Diocese of Manchester reported to the New Hampshire Office of the Attorney General what it believed to be criminal conduct on the part of Msgr. Edward J. Arsenault while he was serving in the diocese. The Attorney General’s Office led an exhaustive investigation, and the diocese fully cooperated in connection with the investigation.
Through documents filed in Superior Court today, Msgr. Arsenault has indicated his intent to plead guilty to felony charges brought by the Attorney General. The Superior Court will conduct a hearing at a later date. Until final disposition by the Court, this remains an ongoing criminal matter. As a result, the diocese will refer all further inquiries to the Office of the Attorney General. The diocese will offer more information when it is appropriate to do so.
The diocese expresses its gratitude to the Office of the Attorney General and supporting law enforcement agencies for their exceptional diligence and professionalism. We pray for all involved and for the continued vitality of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire.
